If you’re thinking of taking herbal medicine, it’s important that you learn as much as possible about it and how it can help you with different conditions or just general overall health. Because there are many different types of herbal medicine, there are also many different things for you to learn.
It also helps to know a little background information about herbal medicine and how it came to be. The root of herbal medicine can be traced back centuries to our ancestors. They had to learn to use what was around them in their environment and they didn’t have access to labs and technology like we do today.
These early ancestors learned that there were many plants and herbs that could provide curative remedies for many common ailments. There were those that could help heal a wound, give more energy, improve concentration and much more.
Many medical experts agree that there are properties from plants and animals that can help treat or even cure conditions such as tumors, cancer, diabetes, heart disease and more. There are even those shown to provide help for the common cold, flu and other viruses.
Today herbal medicine is considered an alternative cure. This means that many mainstream physicians do not approve of herbal medicine or are not licensed to recommend it to you. If you go to your regular doctor and mention herbal medicine and they do not approve, you may need to go to other methods for the treatment you want.
Be sure if you do that you work with someone who is licensed and experienced in herbal medicine. Alternative medicine should be respected the same as traditional medicine and you should never try to treat yourself or just blindly take medications or herbs because you read or heard that they are good for you or a particular condition you have.
Herbal medicine often involves the parts of plants such as:
• Leaves
• Stems
• Roots
• Flowers
• Seeds
• Fruits
All parts cannot be used in the same way in herbal medicine. For example, while one part of the plant can have curative properties for you, another part can be poisonous. This is why it’s very important to know what to take, how much and in what form. Sometimes they are drank as a tea or made into pill form. Sometimes they come in the form of a tincture and sometimes a powder. Different methods of taking the herbal medicine can call for different doses so this is important to know as well.
